Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
