Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed betting on numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.

The actual improvement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would regularly challenge one another. He had access into some of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
