Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
