Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many players can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

Although it seems difficult initially, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing assortment of wagering options and because you have several individuals battling for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
