Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
