Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
