Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate more on poker.

The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would often compete against one another. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker arena ever. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
